“Sanctuary” – Musical Musings in March

Here we are on March 3 and it’s one of my favorite months for my blog. I’ve been preparing for this month for a while now. I’ve listened to music of all varieties and written down title after title. The list is long and we have much to talk about.

0005030206R-849x565Today’s song is really only known by its chorus. I searched for a version of the song with the verses, but it’s just not to be found. I guess that’s okay. There’s plenty in the chorus to keep us occupied.

This song starts with the words, “Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary.” Not just a sanctuary, but God’s sanctuary. Have you read some of what God’s sanctuary is like from Psalms?

  • Psalm 20:2 assures us that help comes from God’s sanctuary.
  • Psalm 20:6 says that God’s sanctuary is heavenly.
  • Psalm 96:6 tells us that splendor, majesty, strength and glory are in His sanctuary.
  • Psalm 102:19 says that God’s sanctuary is above and He is looking down at earth from up high.
  • Psalm134:2 reminds us that raising of hands and praise are in God’s sanctuary.

These are just a few ideas about what is happening in God’s sanctuary. As we look at the song today, we are asking God to make us into His sanctuary. Oh, we know as believers we have God’s Spirit within us and we are the temple of God. But do we really understand all that it entails? Are we prepared to be the sanctuary of God?

I know I can’t on my own. That’s the beauty of having God’s Spirit. He is at work within me and He is transforming me to be a sanctuary for God. And let’s take Psalm 63:2 (NIV) and relate it to this idea. “I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.” Yes! I have seen transformation in my life. It’s not me…its God’s power and glory within me.

So, now, as I sing or read through this song, I know God is at work. I see His power and His glory and I am being transformed by His power.

Now let’s not forget these verses. Thanksgiving. Knowledge. Strength. Guidance. Sanctification. Assistance. And much more. These are what we have through Jesus and God’s Spirit. As we allow God’s work to take place in our lives, we do become the sanctuary of God. How blessed to be in His presence!

So here are the lyrics and a couple of links below to listen to this beautiful song. I pray that your prayer today would be for God to do His holy work in your life. Let’s get prepared!

“Sanctuary”

Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary
Pure and holy, tried and true
With thanksgiving, I’ll be a living
Sanctuary for You

It is you, Lord
Who came to save
The heart and soul
Of every man
It is you Lord
who knows my weakness
Who gives me strength,
With thine own hand.

Lord prepare me to be a sanctuary
Pure and Holy, tried and true
With thanksgiving I’ll be a living
Sanctuary for you

Lead Me on Lord
From temptation
Purify me
From within
Fill my heart with
You holy spirit
Take away all my sin

Lord prepare me to be a sanctuary
Pure and holy, tried and true
With thanksgiving, I’ll be a living
Sanctuary for You[i]
