Thoughts on Leadership

I have had the privilege of going to Willow Creek’s Global Leadership Summit yesterday and today. There are some pretty spectacular speakers we are hearing over these two days. Yesterday I was inspired. I expect nothing less in today’s sessions.

DSCN0582I’d like to share a few quotes from yesterday’s speakers. Maybe you’ll find a bit of wisdom or encouragement from these statements.

“Art isn’t about creativity. It’s about seeing.” –Ed Catmull (Co-founder of Pixar Animation Studios, President of Walt Disney Animation Studios)

“The bravest among us will always be the most brokenhearted.” –Dr. Brené Brown (Research Professor, University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work; Best-selling Author)

“Dumb Idea + God’s Hand = Life-Changing Transformation” –Albert Tate (Founder and Senior Pastor, Fellowship Monrovia in Southern California)

“Pack what we have, give it to Jesus and then get out of the way.” –Albert Tate (Founder and Senior Pastor, Fellowship Monrovia in Southern California)

“Our biggest leadership mountain is us.” –Albert Tate (Founder and Senior Pastor, Fellowship Monrovia in Southern California)

Now you may not think these are the best quotes, but when coupled with the rest of the speaker’s notes, these are powerful statements. These quotes cause us to think a little deeper. To move from here to there in our thought process. To step back and see how God is really at work in our world and our lives.

Here are a few more quotes about leadership that you might recognize.

“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave.” –Jesus (Matthew 20:26-27 – NIV)

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Paul (Galatians 6:9 – NIV)

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” –Paul (Philippians 2:3 – NIV)

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” –Paul (2 Timothy 2:15 – NIV)

Of course, these are just a few verses of Scripture about being a leader and the work of a leader. How blessed to be called to leadership. I pray that you find encouragement from these quotes.

Grace and peace be yours in abundance,

Donna
