“The Lamb of God” – Monday Musical Musings

As much as I’ve shared my love of the many names of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit in Scripture, I also love the idea that God knows and calls each of us by name. Today’s song is a great reminder of this idea.

IMAG1489Just think about it. While Jesus was hanging on the cross, what do you think He was thinking about? We know He spoke a few phrases, but what was He thinking? Scripture doesn’t tell us, but what if He was thinking of each one of us? I know there have been other songs with this idea or concept, but these lyrics hit home for me.

“My name upon Your heart, my shame upon Your shoulders.”

Think about these lyrics. Think about these words. Think about what these words really mean. Jesus knew you and I would turn away from Him. Jesus knew that throughout our lives we would choose to live in the flesh instead of the spirit. Jesus knew there would be times when we would not follow His commands and guidelines.

And He still went to the cross. He still died for me and you.

Today as you read through these lyrics and listen to this song, I pray that you will be reminded once again of the majestic wonderfulness of Jesus’ sacrifice for you. I pray that you will be thankful that your name was upon His heart when your shame was upon His shoulders.

I certainly will.

“The Lamb of God”

You came from heaven’s throne

Acquainted with our sorrow

To trade the debt we owe

Your suff’ring for our freedom

Chorus:

The Lamb of God in my place

Your blood poured out my sin erased

It was my death You died I am raised to life

Hallelujah the Lamb of God

My name upon Your heart

My shame upon Your shoulders

The pow’r of sin undone

The cross for my salvation

(Chorus)

There is no greater love

There is no greater love

The Savior lifted up

There is no greater love[i]
