“The Night the Angels Sang”

I know it’s not Monday, but I remembered a song as I was going to bed last night. “The Night the Angels Sang.”[i] It was a cantata our church sang years ago…I was in my teens. But as the lyrics and music filled my head, I was reminded just how precious music is to me and what it means to me at Christmastime.

DSC03873mI found a couple recordings of this cantata which was pretty awesome, so I’m sharing one of them with you. I pray that you will the time to listen to the entire piece…however, I know we are all busy and it isn’t the most professional piece I’ve shared with you. But the memories that fill my heart are bountiful.

As you listen to this cantata, I pray that you will be reminded of the Scripture that depicted this scene. Luke 2:8-20 is the passage of this account. A couple of things stand out to me. First, as soon as the angels left the shepherd, they hurried off to see the Christ child. I must ask, how quickly do you seek to be with Jesus each day? Do you meet with Him first thing or are there other things that come first? I pray that you will learn a little something from the shepherds.

And then I also love that after they saw Jesus they “spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child.” (Luke 2:17 – NIV) Are you spreading the word about Jesus? Are you sharing this message with friends and family? This is the perfect season to do so.

And then one more thing, the shepherds returned to their sheep glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen. We each have a job to head off to today. As we go out into our world, do others see us glorifying and praising God? Do they notice something different about you and me? I pray that they do.

Perhaps you have some fond memories of Christmas music from your past or present. If so, I’d love to hear all about it.

Have a blessed day and if you are in an area where winter weather has hit (like Colorado), please be careful out there! I pray blessings upon your day!

Grace and peace be yours in abundance,
