I am excited to worship with my new church family this morning. We will gather together in fellowship, we will sing praises to our heavenly Father, we will humble ourselves before Him during the Lord\u2019s Supper, we will ho\"\"<\/a>nor Him with our financial gifts, and we will listen intently as His message is spoken.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I pray that you feel the same excitement.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Today I want to share a post about listening and hearing God\u2019s voice, but also about His voice specifically. I was reminded after re-reading this post that I wanted to do a study on God\u2019s voice. Maybe I\u2019ll have to do that soon.<\/p>\n

Psst!<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I have a special way to call my granddaughter Joy. When she hears \u201cpsst,\u201d she knows I want to talk to her.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

My grandson Percy has learned that when I say \u201cpsst, psst,\u201d I want to get his attention.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t matter where Joy or Percy are in the house, they seem to hear my voice and they stop what they are doing to see what I want.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I found a passage of Scripture that tells us about God\u2019s voice. Let\u2019s see what Psalm 29 (NIRV) describes.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Praise<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first section of this Psalm tells us that we are to praise God. We are to worship the Lord because of His beauty and holiness.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cPraise the Lord, you mighty angels.
\nPraise the Lord for his glory and strength.
\nPraise the Lord for the glory that belongs to him.
\nWorship the Lord because of his beauty and holiness.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Praise is more than just singing worship songs on Sunday mornings. We are to praise God with our entire lives. With everything that we do. With each word that we speak. With each thought we think.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

God\u2019s Voice<\/strong><\/p>\n

The second section of this Psalm gives a description of God\u2019s voice. Notice how powerful and mighty it is.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cThe voice of the Lord is heard over the waters.
\nThe God of glory thunders.
\nThe Lord thunders over the mighty waters.<\/em><\/p>\n

The voice of the Lord is powerful.<\/em><\/p>\n

The voice of the Lord is majestic.
\nThe voice of the Lord breaks the cedar trees.
\nThe Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon into pieces.
\nHe makes the mountains of Lebanon skip like a calf.
\nHe makes Mount Hermon jump like a young wild ox.\u201d<\/em>
\nThe voice of the Lord strikes
\nwith flashes of lightning.
\nThe voice of the Lord shakes the desert.
\nThe Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh.
\nThe voice of the Lord twists the oak trees.
\nIt strips the forests bare.
\nAnd in his temple everyone cries out, “Glory!”<\/em><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve never done a study on the voice of God. I\u2019ve studied His names. I\u2019ve studied His attributes. I\u2019ve studied His commands. What I do know is that we are to know God\u2019s voice. When we hear His voice we are to respond. Respond with repentance, resistance to temptation, obedience, a good deed, or being still to name a few.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This section clearly shows the power in God\u2019s voice. Like that of a thunderstorm with bolts of lightning. Storm chasers run toward thunderous weather. That\u2019s how we should approach God\u2019s voice. Run toward it. Embrace it. Understand it. Know it.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Lord<\/strong><\/p>\n

Finally this passage concludes with what the Lord does. What His role in His creation is.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Lord on his throne rules over the flood.
\nThe Lord rules from his throne as King forever.
\nThe Lord gives strength to his people.
\nThe Lord blesses his people with peace.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The Lord. Not just the Lord of the world or the universe, but the Lord of my life is described above. When He is King forever in my heart, He rules, He gives strength, and He blesses me with peace. Why wouldn\u2019t I want God to be my Lord? That is exactly what I need when I face trials and temptations.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I am amazed that Joy and Percy respond to my voice the way they do. My quiet \u201cpsst\u201d breaks through all the noise. It breaks through the concentration on a game or activity. It breaks through a television program.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Do you hear God\u2019s voice? He\u2019s saying, \u201cpsst?\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Grace and peace be yours in abundance,<\/p>\n

PS (or should I say \u201cpsst\u201d?) \u2013 We\u2019ve had a new addition to our family since I wrote this post. Leslieanna Grace joined us seven months ago and she is already learning that when she hears \u201cpsst, psst, psst\u201d that someone would like her attention.<\/p>\n
