Last week I went to lunch with my best friend, Lori. We went to a local Chinese restaurant and had a delicious and pleasant meal. At the end, as usual, we received fortune cookies. This is what mine said:<\/span> <\/p>\n

\u201cI hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Of course, I kept mine. I knew it would wind up in my blog at some point. And here it is. The idea that if I do something, I am more apt to get it. To understand what it is I\u2019m doing.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
This got me to thinking about the things that we are to be \u201cdoing\u201d as a Christian. I\u2019ve compiled a list\u2026not an exhaustive one by any means, but still something we can check to see how we are doing with these.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
So what are we to be doing?<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Make Disciples<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\u201cTherefore go and make disciples<\/b> of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.\u201d<\/span><\/i> (Matthew 28:19-20)<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Good<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\u201cLet us not become weary in doing good<\/b>, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good<\/b> to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.\u201d<\/span><\/i> (Galatians 6:9-10)<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Be Holy<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\u201cBut just as he who called you is holy, so be holy<\/b> in all you do; for it is written: \u2018Be holy, because I am holy.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/i> (1 Peter 1:15-16)<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Stand Firm<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\u201cBe on your guard; stand firm<\/b> in the faith; be men of courage; be strong<\/span><\/i>.\u201d (1 Corinthians 16:13) [don\u2019t overlook the others in this short verse]<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Encourage<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\u201cEncourage<\/b>one another daily, as long as it is call Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin\u2019s deceitfulness.\u201d<\/span><\/i> (Hebrews 3:13)<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Sing<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\u201cSing<\/b>and make music in your heart to the Lord<\/span><\/i>.\u201d (Ephesians 5:19b)<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Rejoice!<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\u201cRejoice<\/b>in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice<\/b>!\u201d<\/span><\/i> (Philippians 4:4)<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Shine<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\u201cLet your light shine<\/b> before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.\u201d<\/span><\/i> (Matthew 5:16)<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Love<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\u201cDo everything in love<\/b>.\u201d<\/span><\/i> (1 Corinthians 16:14)<\/span><\/div>\n

As I said earlier, this is not an exhaustive \u201cto do\u201d list\u2026there are still many, many more to add. But this was a good start. Maybe you could start your own \u201cto do\u201d list. What you<\/i> are to be doing.<\/span><\/div>\n

Most of the fortunes I\u2019ve received at Chinese restaurants aren\u2019t worth reading, much less something to take to heart. I was surprised by this one and was thankful it could be used to bring glory to God. Now if I could only say \u201cMother\u2019s Day\u201d in Chinese! M<\/span>\u016d q\u012bn ji\u00e9<\/span>?<\/span><\/div>\n
