<\/a>I\u2019ve read all of the Scripture about humility many times in my life. I\u2019ve even thought I had mastered humility. But that\u2019s the reality of humility. Just when we think we\u2019ve got it, pow! I\u2019m tossed right back into the pride arena.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
So today, I\u2019d like to remind myself (yet again) of why humility is important for Christian living and how to attain humility.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n Number 1:<\/em><\/strong> Wisdom accompanies humility. Proverbs 11:2 (NIV) says, \u201cWhen pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Number 2:<\/em><\/strong> We are lifted up when we are humble. \u201cHumble yourselves, therefore, under God\u2019s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.\u201d <\/em>(1 Peter 5:6 \u2013 NIV)<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Number 3:<\/em><\/strong> Because God commanded us to be humble. Here are just a few verses to keep in mind: Micah 6:8; Romans 12:16; Ephesians 4:2; Colossians 3:12; Philippians 2:3; 1 Peter 3:8.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n How?<\/strong><\/p>\n Number 1:<\/em><\/strong> Submit to God. James 4:7 (NIV) tells us to \u201cSubmit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Number 2:<\/em><\/strong> Come to Jesus as a little child. In Matthew 18:3-4 (NIV), Jesus said, \u201cI tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Number 3:<\/em><\/strong> Become a servant. Again, in Jesus\u2019 teaching, He spoke these words in Mark 9:35 (NIV). \u201cIf anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Number 4:<\/em><\/strong> Pray, seek God\u2019s face and turn from your wicked ways. King Solomon heard these words from the Lord Himself. \u201cIf my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and forgive their sin and will heal their land.\u201d <\/em>(2 Chronicles 7:14 \u2013 NIV)<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Number 5:<\/em><\/strong> Join Jesus in the yoke. Again, take a look at Jesus\u2019 teaching from Matthew 11:29 (NIV). \u201cTake my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Number 6:<\/em><\/strong> Be teachable. Psalm 25:8-9 (NIV) tells us that, \u201cGood and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways. He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Once again, I\u2019ve learned a few things about humility and how it relates to my Christian living. I pray that God would continue to use me, His humbled servant to share His message with others.
