“Better is One Day” – Monday Musical Musings

If you haven’t figured it out, it’s February 29th! That means you have an extra day this year to do something spectacular with.

???????????????????????????????February 29 has always been special for my family. My grandfather was born on this day in the late 1800’s. And as if that weren’t special enough, he was a twin. What wonderful celebrations we had for Grandpa and Uncle Bill.

I’m sure for my future daughter-in-law, this extra day is delightful. One day more to plan, prepare and anticipate the day she comes along side my son as his bride.

For others, this day may be an ordinary day. No real special meaning to this day. It’s just another day in a life.

While we may or may not look upon this day as an extra special day, the psalmist knew how wonderful one day could be. See if you might agree.

“How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God…Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere.” (Psalm 84:1; 2; 10a – NIV)

If we look upon today from the psalmist’s point of view, today will be extra special as we meet God! And the good news is, that we can meet up with God again tomorrow and the next day and the next. These special days can be on-going and forever.

As a reminder that this is the place where our hearts and flesh desire to be, I have a song for you to sing all day long. Matt Redman’s, “Better is One Day.” I pray that you will find that being in love with God is far better than anything else. I pray that this extra day will give you the opportunity to draw closer to God. I pray that your greatest desire today will be to meet God in His dwelling place.

“Better is One Day”[i]

How lovely is Your dwelling place

Oh Lord Almighty,

My soul doth long and even faints for You

For here my heart is satisfied

Within Your presence

I see beneath the shadow of Your wings

Chorus:

Better is one day in Your courts

Better is one day in Your house

Better is one day in Your courts

Than thousands elsewhere

Better is one day in Your courts

Better is one day in Your house

Better is one day in Your courts

Than thousands elsewhere

How lovely is Your dwelling place

Oh Lord Almighty,

My soul doth long and even faints for You

For here my heart is satisfied

Within Your presence

I see beneath the shadow of Your wings

(Chorus)

Bridge:

My heart and flesh cry out

For You, the Living God

Your Spirit’s water to my soul

I’ve tasted, and I’ve seen

Come once again to me

I will draw near to You

I will draw near to You

(Chorus)
